Karen and Steve newsletter - 10th May 2020

Hi Everyone

I hope you are all enjoying your bank holiday weekend. I sat in the sun on Friday reading my book.

Congratulations

Some good news for you all - which makes a change from all the sadness in the world today

A big congratulations to Anna and Dan on the birth of their baby girl Lily Bridget born 3rd May 7lb 3oz, Anna and Lily are keeping well. They are all home and enjoying being first time parents.

Guess the film challenge

I have a film challenge for you - see how many films you can name. This is aimed more at the parents and older swimmers as I susepct some of the younger ones won't have even heard of some them. However, the cows made me laugh so worth having a go.

Name that film

You can email me with your answers and I will give you a score and the correct answers:)

Thank you Judy for this one.

October Half term swim camp

The details for this camp have now been confirmed and booked with hotel rooms reserved. I have 2 places left but only open to Training squad swimmers. First come, first served. This camp is not run along the same lines as Llandudno. Parents must attend (unless you are already a swimmer over the age of 18 years), and there is no accommodation, food, entertainment or transport included. Only the pooltime is paid for.

This is running on the proviso of cancellation if lockdown will not allow it to run.

Swim England Catagory 3 members

There are a group of swim members, mainly parents, who paid cat 3 membership to Orion Swimming Club in January 2020. At the moment only a handful have been migrated across to show as registered members of Birmingham Marlins. If you are aware that you are a paid up catagory 3 member, can you let me know please. You will then receive an email with a short application, that you will need to complete. It is basically asking you whether you wish your registeration to be transferred. There will be no further fee to pay but it will allow for the transfer to be completed.

Equipment

We have had a donation of a large amount of kickboards (floats) and pullbouys. I have expressed a thank you to the person who has donated them, on behalf of Birmingham Marlins.

I have also now received the new land training equipment.

Land Training sessions upon return

Land training sessions upon return will be set at slightly different times and with different support teachers. I have been in touch with Debbie, Alison and Miriam this week and all have confirmed that they will be returning after lockdown. Take care all and keep the communications coming. New video compilation on the web site, with another one pending.

Message from Steve
Hi everyone

I hope you all are well on this Bank Holiday/VE day weekend, I know you are bored and fed up, although, some of us are still at work. We have had quite a few videos, photos, drawings and diagrams sent to Karen over the last few weeks, showing us what people are doing during lockdown. Keep sending them to Karen so we can add them to Facebook and our web page. It is a great way of staying in touch with our friends and members, and seeing what everyone else has been up to.

"I think Karen should do the Swim Cap Challenge"

I know Karen has had emails from some members telling her about the bikes rides, cooking activities and long walks that have been taking place.

You need to keep your fitness levels up, by doing your land training and using your rollers. I am really proud of all the swimmers as they I know you are doing your best to keep yourselves fit and healthy.

Scott, Pam and I are missing the pool greatly and getting those withdrawal symptoms that I know Karen has had for weeks. Hopefully not going to be too long now before we can all start pool training again.

We would like to see some more challenges for people to do, so come forward with your ideas. You can see the previous challenge that came from William on the web site and on Facebook. The recordings are under Gallery on the web site - have a look at myself doing the Swimming Cap Challenge, it was good fun. Well done to William for coming up with the challenge. Pam and Scott also had a go.

I think Karen should do the Swim Cap Challenge - she's definitely got enough caps.

Congratulations Anna and Dan.

I cannot wait to see you all again soon.
Keep well and stay safe
