News email from Karen - sent 24th May 2020

Hi Everyone,

I have had a busy week. I hope everyone is safe and well.

Committee Meeting

The committee met this week and the minutes are now uploaded onto the web site. It was nice to see everyone, even if only remotely, and to catch up on how everyone is coping.

Swimmark

We have working towards this accrediation ever since we opened and we are now nearly there. Both Dave and I have been playing email ping pong for weeks to gather the required evidence and complete form after form. All our policies have been updated and now available on the web site.

Health and Safety officer
Dave has volunteered to take on the health and safety officer role, there are more details within the committee meeting minutes.
Annual General Meeting

From Dave Marsh - Chair of Birmingham Marlins

Paragraph 9.1 of the Birmingham Marlins Swimming Club Constitution requires that we hold an Annual General Meeting in May/June of each year. At the meeting of the Club Committee held via the internet on 20th May 2020 it was decided, due to the impracticality of holding such a meeting that the 2020 AGM be postponed indefinitely.

If any member of the club or parent/guardian of any member wishes to bring up any point which would have been covered/discussed at an AGM please contact me and I will try to resolve any of your concerns.

Easy Fundraising

We have now launched this, with full instructions on the web site. We have raised around £2.97 so far, so if all members raise this amount we would soon reach our fund raising target for the year.

Llandudno February 2021

I have recevied around 36 replies so far confirming attendance for the main camp. I am awaiting for around 20 replies to come in. Do not forget that you need to confirm or decline your place please. Deposits need to be paid by end of July 2020.

Sheffield swim camp 2020.

This camp has also now been booked. It takes place October half term Tuesday 27th - Thursday 29th October 2020. It has been booked under the proviso of cancellation should restrictions prevent us from travelling or attending. This camp is only open to training squad swimmers. I have two places left should anyone wish to attend. Please note if under the age of 18 years, parents must attend. If you are interesting in going and would like some further details let me know, but it is first come first served for this camp.

Gallery

We now have 6 videos on the web site under gallery. Please keep your recordings coming, along with drawing, writings and anything else that you wish to share. I currently only have enough submissions for one more video compliation so please send through.

Challenge for you.

How many star jumps can you do in 30 seconds? If possible send me the recording, but if you do not want to be recorded then just send me your total and I will trust your word. You can just record your feet if preferred. I will run a 'ladder' but will take into account age, impairment and environment. Parents, you can join in as well. For those who do not wish to be identified, I will just call you member 1, member 2 etc. You will know who you are. I may even see if I can find a prize for the one who climbs to the top of the ladder by the time we return to swimming. You can enter as many times as you wish.

Drawing of Virus

We are looking for a new drawing of a 'virus' for the web site. If you have a look under News on the web site, you will see, we have drawing of virus with spikes, with facemasks, in green, in orange, with teeth, without teeth etc.

We would like an original drawing - preferably drawn with a clean, solid black line and nicely coloured in within the lines and ideally the drawing will be as wide as it is tall so it displays properly on the website page.

Drawing should be quite large, on a piece of A4, scan and email

Look forward to seeing the diagrams, I have received Poppy's and Corey's so far.

Take care everyone. Looking forward to a time when we can swim again.
